README
Project Overview
1zimu is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox that plays subtitles as a list alongside online foreign-language videos, movies, shows, and audio. It works both with videos that already have subtitles and with external subtitle files you load yourself. The extension runs right in the browser, so learners can study a language while watching.
Look up words without leaving the video you are watching.
Key Features
- Subtitle list playback: shows a video's subtitles as a list you can click to jump to that moment
- Word and phrase translation: hover or click a word, phrase, or sentence to see an instant translation
- External subtitle support: load a local subtitle file for videos without built-in subtitles
- Screen mask: covers the original subtitle area so it does not overlap the extension's subtitles
- Speed control and shadowing: slow the video down and pause line by line for shadowing practice
- TTS reading: uses speech synthesis to read subtitles aloud for listening practice
- Multi-browser installation: the same extension installs from the Chrome, Edge, and Firefox stores
Target Audience
- Self-learners studying languages through film and TV
- Students watching foreign-language videos
- Learners preparing for language exams
- Users practicing listening and speaking
Quick Start
- Search for 1zimu in the Chrome, Edge, or Firefox add-on store and install it
- Open an online video page that has subtitles
- Click the extension icon to show the subtitle list on the page
- Hover over or click a word in the subtitles to see its translation
- For shadowing, slow down playback and pause line by line
Core Advantages
- Study and practice together: lookup, translation, shadowing, and reading all happen on the video page
- Covers major browsers: installable on Chrome, Edge, and Firefox
- Works without built-in subtitles: your own subtitle file is enough
- Click to jump: every line maps to a moment, so you can jump straight to it

Notes
- The extension itself is not open source; this repository only hosts downloads and issue tracking
- Translation and TTS need a network connection, so some features are unavailable offline
- Only videos with subtitles or loadable subtitles are supported; subtitles are not generated automatically
- You must provide a subtitle file that matches the video when using external subtitles
