README

Project Overview

Edgechat is a chat system you can deploy yourself. It hosts the message service on a Cloudflare Worker, uses Vue for the front end, and keeps session state in Durable Objects. It can bridge in Telegram as an entry point and encrypt messages with AES-256-GCM, which suits people who want a private chat service without relying on a third-party SaaS. The project is open source under GPL-3.0.

Item Value
Platform Cloudflare Worker (self-hosted)
Frontend Vue
State storage Durable Objects
License GPL-3.0

A self-hosted system that puts chat, a Telegram bridge, and end-to-end encryption on the Cloudflare edge.

Key Features

  • Self-hosted chat: the whole service runs on Cloudflare Workers, no own servers needed
  • Vue frontend: a light web UI deployed at the edge
  • Telegram bridge: use Telegram as a chat entry into the system
  • Encrypted messages: message content is encrypted with AES-256-GCM
  • WebMCP: a web-based management entry point
  • Session state: Durable Objects persist sessions and messages

Target Audience

  • Developers who want a private, self-hosted chat service
  • Teams familiar with the Cloudflare ecosystem
  • Users who care about message encryption and data control
  • Users who want Telegram folded into a system they manage
  • Developers looking for an edge-deployed chat solution

Quick Start

  1. Prepare a Cloudflare account with Worker and Durable Objects enabled
  2. Deploy the Worker and configure the Telegram bridge credentials
  3. Build and deploy the Vue frontend
  4. Start and manage sessions through the web entry

Core Advantages

  • Zero servers: everything runs on the Cloudflare edge, no machines to operate
  • Encryption built in: messages use AES-256-GCM by default, no extra components
  • Extensible: the Telegram bridge and web entry keep integration flexible

System Requirements

Item Requirement
Runtime Cloudflare platform (Worker + Durable Objects)
Frontend Vue build output
License GPL-3.0

Notes

  • Self-hosting responsibility: you store the service and data yourself; mind key and credential security
  • Telegram dependency: the bridge relies on a Telegram account and interface availability
  • GPL contagion: secondary distribution or modification must follow GPL-3.0 terms
