README

Project Overview

Litestream is a standalone streaming replication tool for SQLite. It runs as a background process and safely replicates changes incrementally to another file or S3. Litestream only communicates with SQLite through the SQLite API so it will not corrupt your database.

Key Features

  • Streaming replication for SQLite
  • Incremental change replication to file or S3
  • Embeddable as a Go library into applications
  • VFS extension for read-only and read-write replicas
  • Cross-platform (Linux, macOS)

Target Audience

  • Developers using SQLite
  • Users who need database disaster recovery and backup
  • Teams who want lightweight replication

Quick Start

  1. Homebrew installation: brew tap benbjohnson/litestream && brew install litestream
  2. Configure replication target (local file or S3)
  3. Start Litestream as a background service
  4. Database changes are stream-replicated to the target automatically

Core Advantages

  • Lightweight standalone replication tool
  • Communicates via SQLite API – safe and non-intrusive
  • Supports cloud storage like S3
  • Embeddable as a Go library

System Requirements

  • OS: Linux, macOS (Windows experimental)
  • Architectures: x86_64, arm64, armv6, armv7
