README

Project Overview

DeepSeek Harness Desktop is an unofficial Windows x64 desktop wrapper for DeepSeek Harness that puts the upstream dsh web interface inside a Windows app. The installer bundles Node.js, pnpm and a pinned @deepseek-ai/dsh, so no separate Node.js setup is needed. It also adds entry points for plugin management, a community plugin marketplace and profile environment management.

A local agent system delivered in a Windows window that carries its own runtime.

Key Features

  • Desktop wrapper: packages the upstream dsh web UI as a Windows app that serves only on the local loopback address 127.0.0.1
  • Plugin management: groups plugins by bundle with per-entry enable and disable, npm or Git installation and removal of non-core components
  • Plugin marketplace: reads the full awesome-dsh-plugins catalog with search, type and category filters, detail views, caching and installation of compatible plugins
  • Environment management: create, copy, rename, delete and switch web profiles, restarting dsh on switch
  • Theme following: management windows follow dsh's light, dark and plugin themes
  • Single instance: runs one instance and auto-restarts dsh at most twice after a crash
  • Native window feel: Windows native buttons, rounded corners, shadows and edge resizing

Target Audience

  • Users who want to run DeepSeek Harness as a desktop app on Windows
  • Users who need a GUI for managing dsh plugins and profiles
  • Users who would rather not set up Node.js and pnpm by hand

Quick Start

  1. Download DeepSeek Harness Setup 0.1.1.exe from GitHub Releases, run the installer and choose a folder
  2. The installer creates desktop and Start menu shortcuts; if SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher, verify the download source and the SHA-256 in the release, click More info and then Run anyway
  3. Launch the app and open Settings → Models to enter your model configuration and API key
  4. Pick a dedicated workspace and review the session permission and tool approval settings
  5. Manage desktop extensions through the Plugin Management, Plugin Marketplace and Environment Management entries at the top of the window

Core Advantages

  • Ready out of the box: bundles Node.js 24.4.0, pnpm 10.8.0 and @deepseek-ai/dsh 0.1.0-rc.8, so it runs right after installation
  • Local only: serves exclusively on the loopback address, with local ports chosen from the 3080 to 3090 range
  • Plugin ecosystem built in: the community marketplace catalog supports search, filters and installation of compatible plugins
  • Isolated environments: multiple profiles coexist, and dependencies are prepared per profile when you switch

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Windows 10 or Windows 11, x64
Disk space About 1GB free
Network Model calls, the marketplace and plugin installs need connectivity
Other You must supply your own model provider API key

Notes

  • This is a community wrapper, not an official DeepSeek release, and it implies no DeepSeek support or security endorsement
  • DeepSeek Harness is a local agent system rather than a read-only chat client: per your authorization it can read and write workspace files, run PowerShell or Shell commands and reach the network, so pick a dedicated test folder on first use and avoid your whole user directory, a sync drive root or an unrecoverable important repository
  • Only an NSIS installer is provided, with no portable build, and the installer is not code signed
  • Third-party plugins are not sandboxed extensions; they run with your Windows user privileges, so install only trusted sources and review the repository code and maintenance status first
  • Deleting a profile skips the recycle bin and cannot be undone, so back up the %APPDATA%\DeepSeekHarness\dsh-home\profiles\ folder first
  • Closing all windows stops the local dsh service and there is no tray icon; startup waits up to 30 seconds
