Project Overview
OnePaw — small computer tasks, done in one paw. Screenshots, OCR, image compression, screen recording, color picking, translation, and LAN sharing. A local-first desktop toolbox that requires no account registration. macOS offers a stable release, Windows is in preview.
Key Features
- Screenshot, annotation, OCR: Select a region, a window, or take a long screenshot; the original image is automatically copied when capture completes. Supports brush, arrow, rectangle, mosaic, text, and auto-incrementing numbering; Mac uses on-device Vision for automatic OCR. Press
Sin the screenshot editor to turn the current screenshot into a pinned sticker, scroll to zoom,Escto close. - Image compression: Local batch processing balancing clarity and size, without overwriting originals. On Mac, Finder's "Open with → OnePaw" automatically compresses PNG, JPEG/JFIF, HEIC, and TIFF while preserving format and extension, then reveals the result.
- Screen recording: Record the screen, a window, or a specified region, optionally keeping system sound and mouse pointer. Mac currently does not capture microphone; recordings are saved locally by default.
- Screen color picker: Extract standard sRGB colors, copy HEX, RGB, or HSL, and save recently used colors.
- On-device translation: Two-column translation, and a shortcut for selected text Chinese-English translation. Mac requires macOS 15+; both platforms may need internet for first-time language model preparation.
- Clipboard history: Keeps recently copied text and images locally, with configurable retention count, full content viewing, re-copying, and deletion.
- LAN sharing: Share files, images, text, and links. Others can view, download, and upload via browser without installing a client. Both Mac and Windows use a 10-digit random access code by default, which can be changed to a custom 6–24 digit code. Old links expire immediately after changing the code, and sharing can be stopped at any time.
- Also offers custom global hotkeys, launch at login, and right-click copy path for files/folders. On Mac, copy path is in the Finder "Services" menu, done in the background without popping up the main interface.
Target Audience
- Users who need everyday screenshot, OCR, and screen recording tools
- Privacy-conscious users who want data to stay on their machine
- macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon / Intel) users
- Windows 11 (x64 / ARM64) users
Quick Start
macOS
- Quit the old version before installing. For first-time installation, open the DMG and drag the App into Applications.
- Launch from Applications; it resides in the menu bar, not in the Dock or
Command+Tab. Open the main interface from the menu bar when needed. - Grant screen recording permission on first screenshot or recording; accessibility permission is only needed for shortcut translation reading selected text from other apps.
To upgrade from the old name to OnePaw, download the 0.6.11 PKG. The PKG verifies and backs up the original app before archiving the old name entity; do not delete the old app or user data in advance.
Windows
- Use a Windows account with administrator privileges; quit the old version before upgrading.
- Double-click the downloaded
Setup.exe, confirm administrator authorization, and follow the wizard to "Install" and "Finish". - Open the app from the Start menu. Requires Windows 11 build 22000 or higher, supports x64 / ARM64; the installer includes required runtime components. Installation itself does not need internet; first-time translation model download does.
Core Advantages
- Local-first with clear boundaries: Screenshot OCR, image compression, and translation processing are not uploaded to OnePaw's own cloud services.
- You decide what to share: Auto-copied screenshots, OCR text, recordings, and translations are not automatically added to the shared area.
- Designed for LAN sharing: No built-in public network tunneling or cloud relay; do not map the service port to the public internet.
- Download verification: Each release page includes
SHA256SUMS.txtfor verifying installer integrity.
System Requirements
- OS: macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon / Intel), Windows 11 build 22000 or higher
- Architecture: macOS Universal 2; Windows x64 / ARM64
- Additional dependencies: On-device translation requires macOS 15+; Windows version is currently an unsigned preview
