README

Project Overview

Free New Desk is a desktop media player for Windows 11 x64 in the style of TVBox and FongMi. It covers four modules, on-demand, live TV, the player and music, while media content is imported by the user, since the software bundles no third-party sources. Local music plus NAS, SMB and WebDAV shares can be added to the music library directly. The current stable release is V1.4.17, which focuses on playback session reliability and source parsing compatibility.

A desktop TVBox where you bring your own sources and can add local or network music.

Key Features

  • On-demand: categories, filters, paging, search, details, favorites, history, episodes and playback lines
  • Live TV: M3U, TXT and JSON lists, IPTV multi-line support, XMLTV and gzip EPG, channel favorites and programme reminders
  • Player: a native C++ PlayerHost with LGPL libmpv, supporting hardware decoding, subtitles, audio tracks, speed control, fullscreen, picture-in-picture, screenshots and stable seeking
  • Music library: local, SMB and WebDAV libraries with track and artist artwork, manual covers, synced online lyrics, play queues and position memory
  • Source management: import TVBox and FongMi configurations with grouping, batch enable and disable, health checks and source audits exported as JSON reports
  • Compatibility: CMS XML and JSON, Type4, JS Spider, Drpy and Drpy2, XYQ and XBPQ, plus optional JVM Spider and Plugin Host
  • NAS and SMB: a native Windows smb-helper improves share connections, credential switching, conflict handling and error messages
  • Auto update: checks only this public repository's GitHub Releases

Target Audience

  • Users who want a TVBox or FongMi style interface for on-demand and live TV on a PC
  • Users who want local, NAS, SMB and WebDAV music in one library
  • Users comfortable curating their own source configurations

Quick Start

  1. Grab the Windows x64 build from the V1.4.17 release, preferably Free-New-Desk-Setup-1.4.17-x64.exe, or the portable Free-New-Desk-Portable-1.4.17-x64.exe
  2. On first launch open the Sources page and paste your TVBox or FongMi configuration URL or JSON, or choose a local config file
  3. Media content is empty by default and becomes available once a source is imported; live lists support M3U, TXT and JSON
  4. For music, add a local folder or an SMB or WebDAV network library
  5. If you use a pure JVM JAR source, install Java 17 or newer

Core Advantages

  • Complete playback chain: a native playback core with libmpv and a bundled smb-helper covering local and network media
  • Strong music library: local and network music managed together, remembering artwork, lyrics and playback position
  • Broad source support: mainstream CMS and Spider types are recognised, and sniffed candidates are validated against HTTP responses and media types
  • Stable playback: live streams resume on a limited budget only after a confirmed end or disconnect, and playback statistics are consumed per session identity and recency so stale samples never overwrite the current state

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Windows 11 x64 recommended; Windows 10 x64 should run
Playback components libmpv ships with the release, so no separate VLC or FFmpeg install is needed
Optional Java 17 or newer for pure JVM JAR sources

Notes

  • The software bundles and recommends no third-party media sources; all sources are configured by the user, who is responsible for their legality
  • On-demand and live content require importing your own TVBox, FongMi or IPTV configuration
  • JS Spider, JAR Spider and plugins never enter the renderer, which keeps its isolation settings
  • The software is provided as is and endorses no third-party content that users configure themselves
