README
Project Overview
LocalCastPro is a LAN screen-mirroring app for Android devices that casts the screen of a phone or tablet to another Android phone, tablet, TV or TV box in real time. The stream travels directly between the sending and receiving devices without any cloud relay, targeting low latency. The current public version is free and ad-free, and the source is released under the Apache License 2.0.
A free, ad-free and low-latency Android screen-mirroring tool for your local network
Key Features
- LAN casting: The stream goes directly between sender and receiver without passing through the cloud
- Optional audio: Supports system audio capture (Android 10 and above) and a microphone mode
- Adjustable quality: Set resolution, bitrate and fill mode, with frame rates of 30, 60 or 120 fps
- Manual pairing: Add the receiver's LAN IP manually when automatic discovery fails
- Multi-device: Phones, tablets, TVs and TV boxes can act as sender or receiver
Target Audience
- Home users: who want to cast their phone screen to a TV or TV box
- Multi-device users: who need to share a screen between two Android devices
- Privacy-conscious users: who prefer casting data to stay on the local network
Quick Start
- Install the same version on two Android devices and connect them to the same trusted LAN (Android 7.0 or above required)
- On the device that shows the picture, open the app, tap "Receive Cast" and keep that page open
- On the other device, tap "Send Cast" and pick the discovered receiver; add the receiver IP manually if nothing is found
- Allow screen recording or sharing when the system prompts you; the receiver then shows the sender's screen
- To adjust quality, open "Settings" before casting and change resolution, bitrate, fill mode or frame rate
- Tap "Stop Cast" on either device to finish
Core Advantages
- Local direct link: Data stays on your LAN and does not depend on the internet
- Free and ad-free: The current public version costs nothing and ships without an ad SDK
- Built for low latency: Aims at a real-time feel for watching together
- Open source: The code is public, making it easy to understand and build yourself
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Android 7.0 or above (audio capture needs Android 10 or above) |
| Architecture | Universal APK (covers mainstream Android devices) |
| Network | Sender and receiver on the same LAN |
Notes
- Trusted network: The current casting connection provides no end-to-end encryption or authentication, so do not use it on untrusted public networks
- Real latency: Latency varies with device performance, quality settings and Wi-Fi conditions rather than being a fixed value
- Audio compatibility: System audio capture needs Android 10 or above and some apps block it
- Experimental rate: 120 fps is an experimental option whose real frame rate is limited by the device and network
- Reinstall tip: If the installer reports it cannot overwrite, uninstall the old version first; uninstalling clears the app's local settings
