README
Project Overview
Search is a small WebKit browser for macOS, made by the design studio Office Commun for people who live in a browser and are tired of tools that became products. It reuses the system WebKit engine, is about 3MB on disk and opens instantly, with no account, cloud sync, or telemetry. The project is open source under MIT, roughly 42,000 lines of Swift with no external dependencies.

Key Features
- Single field: type an address to go, type words to search
- Tab management: tabs across the top or down the left, pinnable, session restore
- Reading mode: reduce a page to the article in one tap
- Hide elements: permanently hide banners and clutter per site
- Ad blocking: block third-party trackers at the network layer before rendering
- Keychain passwords: store and fill credentials via the macOS keychain
- Split view: two pages side by side, draggable divider
- Chrome extensions: run Chrome extensions on WebKit and fill in missing APIs
Target Audience
- macOS users who want a light, distraction-free browser
- Privacy-first users who avoid accounts and cloud
- Designers and developers browsing all day
- Developers who want to read a browser's source
Quick Start
- Download the macOS build or run
brew install --cask driceroland/tap/search - Launch it and type an address or words in the single field
- Adjust tabs, blocking, and passwords in settings
- Enable split view and reading mode as needed
Core Advantages
- Tiny: reuses system WebKit, about 3MB and instant
- Privacy built in: no telemetry or cloud, data stays local
- Extension fill-in: runs Chrome extensions on WebKit and patches the gaps

Notes
- Self-builds unnotarized: your own build needs right-click Open or allow; keychain is isolated from the signed build
- No cloud sync: tabs, history, and passwords live only on this Mac
- Extension coverage: some Chrome behavior is filled in by Search, with limited coverage
