README
Project Overview
Edge Translate is a simple, practical open-source translation plugin covering mainstream browsers like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, QQ and 360. Aimed at reading foreign-language literature, it shows translations in a side popup that keeps the body text readable instead of covering it.
Select a word, get a translation in a side panel — reading web pages and PDFs without interruption.
Key Features
- Selection translation: select or double-click a word to translate, powered by the Google Translate API
- Full-page translation: translate an entire page for fluent reading
- PDF translation: translate wording inside PDF documents, easing literature reading
- Side popup: the panel pushes content aside instead of blocking it
- Fixed result frame: pin the translation panel during heavy use to avoid repeated popups
- Customizable display: show only common meanings, or expand pronunciation, definitions and examples
- Efficient shortcuts: keyboard-driven selection, panel expansion and pinning
- Website blacklist: disable word and double-click translation on chosen pages
Target Audience
- Students reading foreign literature
- Developers browsing English docs
- Everyday users of foreign-language sites
- Researchers translating PDFs
