README

Project Overview

ylih (your life in headphones) answers the question every headphone owner eventually asks: how many hours did a pair last before it died? The app timestamps every connect and disconnect automatically, forever, on your phone only.

It tracks lifetime hours per pair, every session, a 30-day chart, and with your purchase price a cost per hour that drops each time you wear them; pairs that report battery also get hours-per-charge trends. The app has no internet permission, no accounts, no analytics, no ads.

Item Value
Platform Android
Stack Kotlin + Jetpack Compose + Room
Distribution F-Droid, Obtainium, Releases
License MIT

Headphones die, ylih remembers every hour they kept you company.

Key Features

  • Lifetime hours: per-pair totals kept forever, retired pairs freeze and the next of the same model starts at zero
  • Session log: start, end and duration of every connection, kept for good
  • Listening time: optionally separate worn-on-head from hung-around-neck, counting only real listening
  • Cost per hour: enter the price you paid and watch it fall with every session
  • Hours per charge: for pairs reporting battery, track usable hours per charge and how it degrades
  • 30-day chart: a month of usage plus a per-day breakdown
  • Home-screen widgets: lifetime hours, today's total or the 30-day chart on your launcher
  • Backup and migrate: manual export/import, scheduled backups to any folder, and Android system backup for new phones

Target Audience

  • Headphone enthusiasts curious about real lifespan
  • Users rotating between several pairs
  • Privacy-first users who refuse networked analytics
  • Quantified-self data lovers

Quick Start

  1. Install from F-Droid or Releases
  2. Connect your Bluetooth headphones as usual, recording is automatic
  3. Name each pair and enter its price in the device list
  4. For listening-time or wired-headphone tracking, enable detailed tracking in settings
  5. Pick a backup folder and enable automatic backups when ready

Core Advantages

  • Zero network: nothing uploaded, no accounts, no analytics, no ads
  • Zero drain by default: the default mode runs nothing, relying on system-reported timestamps
  • Trustworthy numbers: off-time never counted, crashed sessions close at the last known moment, no double counting, all pinned by tests
  • 77 languages: the interface follows your system language

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Android
Permissions Bluetooth (default); a notification for detailed tracking
Battery stats Only for headphones that report battery to Android

Notes

  • Wired needs detailed tracking: Android reports wired connections only to awake apps, enable it in settings
  • Battery depends on hardware: pairs that do not report battery have no hours-per-charge section
  • Play edition: tracking wired headphones there also needs Bluetooth access due to Play rules, everything else matches F-Droid
