README

Project Overview

PipePipe is an open-source Android media client forked from NewPipe that lets you freely browse YouTube, BiliBili, and other video services on your phone. It adds substantial enhancements over the original: sponsored-segment skipping, original title display, danmaku-style live chat, a music mode with background playback, and richer search and filtering. As a hard fork, PipePipe does not follow NewPipe's release rhythm, instead fixing issues and shipping features independently and quickly.

A faster NewPipe with all the enhancements you would want.

Key Features

  • Multi-service browsing: supports YouTube, BiliBili, and several other video services
  • Sponsored-segment skipping: integrates SponsorBlock to skip sponsored segments on YouTube and BiliBili
  • Viewing enhancements: restores dislike counts with ReturnYouTubeDislike and shows YouTube's original titles
  • Live chat as danmaku: overlays live chat in a danmaku style
  • Efficient decoding: supports AV1 and VP9 codecs for a good balance of quality and performance
  • Music mode: background playback so it works like a music player
  • Search and filters: advanced search filters, keyword and channel filtering, and blocking of shorts and paid videos
  • Playback controls: swipe-to-seek, fullscreen gestures, long-press speed-up, and a sleep timer
  • Playlist enhancements: download an entire playlist at once and search or sort within local playlists and history

Target Audience

  • Android users who want ad-free video
  • Users who need background music or podcast playback
  • Users who watch both BiliBili and YouTube

Quick Start

  1. Search for PipePipe on F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid and install it
  2. Open the app and pick the video service to browse in the sidebar
  3. Find content through search or subscriptions and tap to play
  4. Switch to music playback mode when you want background listening
  5. Enable SponsorBlock and filter rules in settings, and configure when login cookies are used

Core Advantages

  • No ads in the way: an open-source client free from official-app ads and recommendation feeds
  • Controllable privacy: login cookies are used only in the scenarios you specify, and on YouTube only to fetch playback streams
  • Fast iteration: the hard-fork model brings fixes and features sooner
  • Feature-complete: ad skipping, restored dislikes, danmaku chat, and music mode all work out of the box

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Android
Installation F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid, or build it yourself
Network Internet access to the selected services

Notes

  • The project does not accept service requests; fork the repository if you want to host your own service
  • You can configure how login cookies are used under "Cookie Functions"
  • As a hard fork, PipePipe and NewPipe do not exchange updates, and issues may behave differently
  • Service availability depends on the platform and your network environment
