README
Project Overview
ContextMenuManager is a clean Windows right-click menu manager supporting everything from Windows 7 through Windows 11. It helps you organize context menu items for files, folders, New, Send To, Open With, custom file types, and Internet Explorer, letting you enable or disable, rename, change icons, jump to the relevant registry location, and add your own entries. The app supports multiple languages and adapts to high-DPI displays.
Tame a cluttered right-click menu into something that fits how you work.
Key Features
- Enable and disable: manage items for files, folders, New, Send To, Open With, custom file types, Internet Explorer, and WinX contexts
- Backup and restore: back up and restore context menus for all these scenarios
- Edit items: rename, change icons, navigate to registry and file locations, and permanently delete
- Custom entries: add right-click items and custom commands for each scenario
- Multilingual: localized interface, with contributions of new language dictionaries welcome
- High-DPI support: adapts to high-resolution screens, with 150% scaling recommended
Target Audience
- Windows users who want to clean up their context menu
- Administrators managing menu items in bulk
- Advanced users who like customizing right-click functions
Quick Start
- Download the zip from Releases (recommended) or grab the exe directly
- Extract and run the program; if .NET 10 is missing, install the matching .NET SDK as prompted
- Choose the scenario to manage on the left, such as files, folders, or Send To
- Right-click or use the menu to enable, disable, rename, or delete the target item
- Back up first before making changes, and restore from the backup when needed
Core Advantages
- Recoverable where possible: items are hidden using system-provided keys instead of being deleted, making restoration easy
- Easy to locate: jump straight to the registry and file locations behind a menu item for further investigation
- Broad coverage: file, folder, New, and Send To scenarios all managed in one place
- Lightweight changes: a graphical interface replaces hand-editing the registry
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 |
| Architecture | 64-bit and 32-bit systems |
| Runtime | Built on .NET 10; install the matching .NET SDK if missing |
Notes
- The program reads and writes many registry keys and files, which may trigger antivirus false positives; whitelist it if that happens
- Different menu managers disable items differently, so avoid running several at once
- Items disabled by another program should be restored with that program first, or they may not appear here
- Some special items (such as shell extensions or encrypted files) may not show in the actual context menu for unrelated reasons but still appear enabled here, which is normal
- This tool does not clean up leftovers; beginners should stick to enabling and disabling
