README
Project Overview
OpenCreator (formerly KrillinAI) is a local-first AI workspace for creators, powered by the Codex CLI. It enables individuals and teams to complete the full creative workflow — from script to video, images, voice, translation, and editing — all within a local environment. The product brings together two connected workflows: AI content creation and a general agent workspace.
Key Features
- Multimodal Creation: Supports video translation, video downloading, thumbnail generation, image generation, and more
- Agent Workspace: Organize conversations by project, keep Runs working in the background, and manage approvals, attachments, files, Skills, MCP, schedules, notifications, memory, and diagnostics
- Dual-Mode Workflow: The visual workspace and agent conversation work together with a shared state machine that keeps steps, progress, and results synchronized
- Versioning: Every revision creates a new version while preserving earlier settings and outputs for review and comparison
- Local Security: Data, attachments, and logs stay local by default, with approvals and redacted diagnostics
- Skills and MCP: Browse, install, and invoke Skills while managing MCP through Codex-native configuration
- Memory: Keep global, project, and thread memory with summaries and reproducible Run input snapshots
- Cross-Platform: Available as both a Web app and a Desktop (Electron) application
Target Audience
- Video creators, content producers, and developers who need local AI creation tools
- Individuals and teams who want to integrate multi-step creative workflows through an agent workspace
- Users who value data privacy and local deployment
Quick Start
- Ensure Node.js 22+, pnpm, and a working Codex CLI are installed
- Clone the repository and install dependencies:
git clone https://github.com/krillinai/OpenCreator.git cd OpenCreator corepack enable pnpm install - Start the Web development server:
pnpm web:dev - Open
http://127.0.0.1:19861/to get started - On first launch, the Runtime prepares a default project automatically
- For desktop development, use
pnpm desktop:dev
Core Advantages
- Codex Native: Reuses the Codex Agent loop, models, reasoning, tool calls, and conversations without maintaining a second execution engine
- Ready-to-Use Desktop App: The desktop version includes Codex CLI; the local Runtime starts on demand and prepares a default project automatically
- Complete Creator Toolchain: Already includes four creator tools (video translation, downloader, thumbnail generator, image generation), with more being added continuously
- Open-Source and Free: Licensed under GPL-3.0, community-driven development
System Requirements
- OS: Cross-platform (Web version works on all platforms; Desktop supports Windows, macOS, Linux)
- Additional Dependencies: Node.js 22+, pnpm, Codex CLI
