Project Overview
InkGist is a minimalist black-and-white AI web summarizer and multi-user cloud bookmark platform: paste any public link and it extracts a one-line summary, smart tags, feature notes and action guides.
It doubles as a full bookmark manager: the browser extension imports Chrome and Edge favorites in one click, cards support drag-and-drop folders, hover previews and inline editing, with Karakeep sync and exports to browser bookmarks or Obsidian knowledge bases.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Platform | Web (self-hosted), plus extension and bookmarklet |
| Stack | Nuxt 4 + Vue 3 + TypeScript + Nitro |
| AI models | Zhipu GLM, DeepSeek, Google Gemini |

Drop in a link for instant summaries, keep bookmarks tidy, all in a clean ink aesthetic.
Key Features
- AI web summaries: extracts one-line summaries, smart tags, feature notes and action guides in seconds
- Multi-model switching: Zhipu, DeepSeek, Gemini and other LLM APIs
- Batch summarizing: queue many URLs behind a controlled 5-way pipeline, abort one or all tasks
- Extension import: the official extension reads Chrome and Edge favorites for selective bulk import
- Karakeep sync: connects to Karakeep cloud or self-hosted instances with precisely aligned fields
- Multi-format export: Netscape bookmark HTML with folder trees, Obsidian and Markdown files with YAML frontmatter
- Bookmark management: drag into folders, hover previews, inline summary editing, 1-3 column grids
- Multi-user accounts: separate sign-up and login, PBKDF2-SHA512 salted hashes and 365-day signed tokens
- Safety checks: URL deduplication, public-domain validation and SSRF private-network blocking
Target Audience
- Users with overflowing bookmarks and no time for long reads
- Knowledge workers on Obsidian and Notion
- Karakeep users
- Small teams sharing a bookmark library
- Self-hosting fans who like minimal design
Quick Start
- Deploy the server with the Docker image or the standalone archive
- Configure your model API key in environment variables
- Register an account, install the extension or drag the bookmarklet
- Click the bookmarklet on any page, or paste links to summarize
- Bulk import old favorites with the extension and organize by dragging
Core Advantages
- Time-saving reads: structured summaries in seconds, deep reading is your choice
- Flexible deployment: Docker or standalone, with Cloudflare D1 or local JSON storage
- Open data: bookmarks flow in and out, pairing with Karakeep, Obsidian and more
- Isolated accounts: per-user data separation with strongly hashed passwords
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Deployment | Docker or standalone package |
| Runtime | Node.js (self-hosted); storage optionally Cloudflare D1 |
| Model key | an API key from Zhipu, DeepSeek or Gemini |
| Browser | Chrome / Edge (extension), any modern browser (web) |
Notes
- Bring your own key: AI summaries need an API key for your chosen model in the deployment config
- Summaries are not the source: results come from LLMs, verify the original for critical decisions
- Harden public deployments: use HTTPS and strong passwords when exposing the service, SSRF blocking is built in
