README

Project Overview

Talkify is a modern Android TTS connector that exposes the speech synthesis of cloud providers (Microsoft, Qwen, Doubao, Tencent Cloud, MiniMax, Xiaomi MiMo, Google Gemini TTS, and OpenAI) and a fully offline local engine (ZipVoice) to the system and reading apps through the standard Android Text-to-Speech interface. It supports custom endpoints and models per provider, plus style instructions, streaming synthesis, and stable background reading.

Give ebook narration emotion and warmth.

Key Features

  • Multiple providers: bundled Microsoft, Qwen, Doubao, Tencent Cloud, MiniMax, Xiaomi MiMo, Google Gemini TTS, and OpenAI with one-tap switching
  • Offline local synthesis: a built-in ZipVoice engine with 12 Chinese voices, no API key and works offline
  • Custom configuration: set a custom API address and model per provider for self-hosted proxies and relay platforms
  • Proxy support: HTTP and SOCKS proxies for the Google and OpenAI providers
  • Style instructions: control emotion, tone, and speed with a natural-language description
  • System integration: implements the standard Android TTS interface for reading apps to call
  • Streaming synthesis: streaming transfer lowers first-word latency
  • Stable background: permission guidance for network, battery optimization, and notifications keeps long readings uninterrupted

Target Audience

  • Users who listen to ebooks with reading apps
  • Users who want high-quality human-like speech
  • Privacy-conscious users who want offline reading

Quick Start

  1. Download and install the APK from Releases
  2. The Microsoft provider and local engine need no setup and work out of the box
  3. For other providers, enter the API key obtained from the matching console in the app
  4. Set Talkify as the default TTS engine in system settings
  5. Enable reading in your reading app to start listening

Core Advantages

  • Cloud and local together: choose from eight cloud providers and a local offline engine
  • Zero-cost offline: local synthesis needs no API key, no billing, and works offline
  • Free configuration: endpoints, models, and proxies are all customizable
