Project Overview
mpv player config is a deployment and configuration restoration guide for mpv on Windows (with macOS and Linux in mind), themed as "uosc and ModernX coexistence plus full Chinese annotations." It splits the two mainstream UI frameworks: ModernX handles the bottom seek bar, floating controls, and top title bar, while uosc specializes in the multi-level translucent menu opened with right click or Tab, avoiding visual and functional conflicts. The package also includes resolution-adaptive auto profiles, audio optimization scripts, hard- and soft-decode guidance, and a switchable Chinese performance stats panel.
A portable mpv setup with uosc and ModernX neatly divided and every config annotated in Chinese.
Key Features
- Two frameworks divided: ModernX handles the main UI and interaction, uosc handles the right-click menu, playlist navigation, and track selection without conflicts
- Thumbnail preview: works with thumbfast to pull high-definition thumbnails instantly when hovering the seek bar
- Resolution adaptation: automatically switches deband and anti-ringing strategies by resolution, strengthening deband at mid resolutions and preserving disc detail at ultra-high resolutions
- Audio optimizations: centers embedded covers when present, renders a rainbow spectrum when absent, and applies separate volumes by file type
- No pop when seeking: lowers volume while scrubbing the seek bar and smoothly restores it on release
- Auto-load and playlist: scans sibling files into the playlist and supports sorting, reversing, shuffling, and save/load
- Chinese stats panel: switchable to a Chinese performance panel including live CPU and GPU usage
- Theme color library: classic, anime, and high-contrast neon seek bar theme colors, changeable in one edit
Target Audience
- Windows users who want to deploy a good-looking mpv setup quickly
- Users who need thumbnail previews and a Chinese stats panel
- Users who want to understand hard vs. soft decoding and tune it themselves
Quick Start
- Download the latest 64-bit build from the official mpv build source and extract it to a local folder such as
C:\mpv\ - Put all config files and folders from the repo into the
portable_configdirectory under the mpv root - Make sure
portable_configcontainsmpv.conf,input.conf,fonts/,scripts/, andscript-opts/ - Open
script-opts/thumbfast.confand pointmpv_path=to the local mpv path or simplympv - Optional: run
mpv-register.batas administrator to associate common media formats - Drop in a test video and check the seek bar, thumbnails, right-click menu, and stats panel against the verification checklist
Core Advantages
- Clear division: ModernX and uosc each do their job, keeping the UI clean with no overlap
- Complete Chinese annotations: scripts and configs are explained in Chinese for easy understanding and tweaking
- Adaptive quality: filter strategies adjust by resolution, balancing animation and high-bitrate discs
- Good audio experience: cover display, spectrum visualization, and seek-time volume ducking all handled
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows primary, with macOS and Linux in mind |
| Player | Official 64-bit mpv build |
| GPU | D3D11 on Windows; switch to Vulkan on macOS and Linux |
Notes
- After changing computers or install paths, re-verify the
mpv_pathsetting inthumbfast.conf - On macOS and Linux, change
gpu-api=d3d11togpu-api=vulkanor comment it out - Enabling the Chinese stats panel disables mpv's built-in English panel; the two cannot coexist
- Back up the whole directory after signature or filter changes to avoid losing tuning work
- After a GPU driver update, re-confirm power management and refresh rate settings
