Shizuku

thedjchi

Shizuku (thedjchi fork) is an Android app that lets normal apps use system-level APIs with adb/root privileges through a Java process started by app_process. This fork adds more robust start on boot, TCP mode, a watchdog service and automation intents on top of the original.

README

Project Overview

Shizuku allows normal Android apps to use system-level APIs that require adb or root privileges through a Java process started by app_process. This repository is the fork maintained by thedjchi, adding a set of practical enhancements over the RikkaApps original.

The app stays open source under Apache-2.0, with new builds distributed via GitHub Releases on both stable and beta tracks.

An enhanced fork of Shizuku: more reliable boot start, and restarting the service no longer needs Wi-Fi.

Key Features

  • Direct system APIs: normal apps call privileged system APIs through the Shizuku process with adb/root powers, no per-app privileges needed
  • More robust start on boot: waits for a Wi-Fi connection before starting the Shizuku service, avoiding boot-time races
  • TCP mode: once Shizuku starts successfully over Wi-Fi after a reboot, you can stop or restart it later without any Wi-Fi connection
  • Watchdog service: automatically restarts Shizuku if it stops unexpectedly and can alert you to crashes and potential fixes
  • Start/stop intents: toggle intents let automation apps such as Tasker, MacroDroid and Automate bring Shizuku up or down on demand
  • Stealth mode (beta): hides Shizuku from apps that refuse to work when it is installed
  • In-app updates (beta): optional automatic update checks with download and install built in

Target Audience

  • Power users granting privileged APIs to normal apps
  • Enthusiasts relying on Shizuku-based utility apps
  • Automators managing services with Tasker-style flows
  • Long-time Shizuku users curious about extra features

Quick Start

  1. Download the latest stable or beta APK from Releases and install it
  2. Start the Shizuku service via wireless debugging or root
  3. Grant access inside apps that rely on Shizuku when prompted
  4. Enable listening and start-on-boot options if desired
  5. Configure TCP mode, the watchdog and automation intents as needed

Core Advantages

  • Enhanced stability: network-aware boot start plus a watchdog keep the service online more often
  • Free of Wi-Fi: TCP mode restarts the service regardless of Wi-Fi state
  • Automation friendly: public start/stop intents slot into any automation workflow
  • Still open source: Apache-2.0 licensed, code follows the upstream tradition

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Android (within upstream supported range)
Start method wireless debugging (adb) or root
Distribution APK from GitHub Releases

Notes

  • This is a fork: for the original version visit the RikkaApps/Shizuku repository
  • Maintenance paused: the author states there is currently no time to continue, it is a side project
  • Privilege equals risk: a Shizuku grant carries adb/root powers, only authorize apps you trust
