README

Project Overview

mpv-startup-format-logos is an mpv script that pops up format badges for the current video and audio in a corner when playback starts. It recognizes video standards like Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, and HDR10+, and audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, so you can see a source's specs at a glance. The script is extracted from Yaozhi's mpv bundle and packaged as a standalone component.

One glance at startup tells you exactly what a source is made of.

Key Features

  • Video format recognition: Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and SDR
  • Audio format recognition: Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Audio Vivid, TrueHD, the DTS-HD family, FLAC, and many more
  • Two badge styles: colored badges or transparent white icons
  • Smart positioning: auto-detects black bars (including Blu-ray encoded ones) and places badges in the safe area
  • Landscape/portrait adaptation: adapts to both orientations
  • Multi-track refresh: refreshes the display when audio tracks switch
  • Animation and config: fade in/out with adjustable priority, position, scale, and dwell time

Target Audience

  • Audiophiles who care about source specs
  • Users who want to confirm HDR and audio formats quickly
  • Players using an all-in-one mpv bundle
  • Advanced users who like visual cues

Quick Start

  1. Get the script, config, and badge assets from Yaozhi's mpv bundle
  2. Put startup-format-logos.lua into mpv's scripts directory
  3. Put startup_format_logos.conf into script-opts
  4. Put startup-logo-bounds.lua into script-modules
  5. Put the badge image assets into script-assets/startup-format-logos/
  6. Play a video and the badges appear at startup; adjust parameters in the config as needed

Core Advantages

  • Specs at a glance: no parameter tables needed; you know the source at startup
  • Broad recognition: covers mainstream HDR and audio formats including domestic standards
  • Thoughtful placement: avoids black bars so badges never cover the picture
  • Adjustable: style, position, and duration all follow your preference

System Requirements

Item Requirement
Player mpv (with Lua script support)
OS Windows, macOS, Linux
Special note HDR Vivid and Audio Vivid recognition needs a specially built mpv

Notes

  • The script and assets must be extracted from the bundle; copying a single file is not enough
  • Accurate HDR Vivid and Audio Vivid recognition depends on a specifically compiled player core
  • Restart the player or reload the script after changing the config
