README
Project Overview
Sakura Read is an anime-styled Android novel reader written with Flutter. It reads local TXT and EPUB files, searches online sources imported in the Legado 3.0 book source format, and includes a mascot desktop pet that keeps you company, acts cute, and occasionally causes mischief. It is made for readers who like a Japanese-style interface and a touch of companionship.
Under the cherry tree, finish a book slowly.
Key Features
- Local reading: TXT with automatic UTF-8, UTF-16, and GBK detection, plus EPUB with dual EPUB2/EPUB3 table-of-contents parsing and cover extraction
- Immersive reader: slide, cover, fade, and scroll page turns, adjustable font size, spacing, and margins, six backgrounds with day/night switching
- Text-to-speech: system TTS reads paragraph by paragraph, with live speed and pitch control, reading follow, and automatic continuation across chapters
- Online search: import book sources as JSON, search concurrently across sources, merge results by title and author, and switch sources while keeping progress
- Source engine: supports CSS, JSONPath, XPath, regex, and template rules, using a hidden WebView to get past token walls and SPA routing
- Reading stats: total time, a seven-day bar chart, consecutive reading days, and books finished
- Mascot pet: a draggable floating companion with tap and head-pat interactions, seven intimacy levels, dozing, and anger states
- Update check: silent check at startup with multi-route mirror downloads and a one-tap installer
Target Audience
- Readers who like anime-style interfaces and a mascot companion
- Users who read TXT and EPUB on their phone
- Users who find books with Legado 3.0 sources
- Users who prefer listening with TTS
Quick Start
- Download the latest APK from Releases; accept the terms on first launch and grant file access
- Tap the plus button at the bottom-right of the shelf to import local TXT or EPUB files, or scan common folders
- To read online, tap the magnifier at the top-right of the shelf, enter a title, open a result, and add it to the shelf
- Tap the middle of the reader to open the menu and adjust layout, theme, or start TTS
- In settings you can disable the pet during reading and replay the onboarding guide
Core Advantages
- Broad format support: handles local TXT and EPUB, with stable per-title artwork when a cover is missing
- Source compatibility: implements Legado 3.0 rules in independent Dart code, so existing sources work without copying GPL code
- Smooth reading: cross-chapter continuation and silent preloading of adjacent chapters keep page turns fluid
- Companionship: the mascot changes expressions and lines as you interact, making reading less monotonous

Notes

- Third-party source sites often change or shut down; disable failed sources or import your own
- Silent TTS usually means no engine is installed or set as default; check Android settings
- Built-in sources include public-domain and third-party aggregator sources whose content belongs to the original sites
