README

Project Overview

Betacraft Launcher aims to make old Minecraft versions easy to access and play while improving the overall experience. It applies extensive compatibility fixes for Classic and early versions, alongside modern account sign-in, mod, and server features.

Key Features

  • Supports versions from Pre-Classic to 1.5.2, including skins and sound
  • Fixes classic mouse behavior, gray screens, AMD clouds, and crashes on early versions
  • Launches Indev and early Infdev versions
  • Handles online-mode multiplayer for pre-b1.8 versions; join custom servers with c0.0.15a
  • Easy window resizing for old versions that do not support it natively
  • Microsoft account sign-in
  • Mod repository featuring community mods
  • Server list with live player counts and descriptions; click to join and auto-download the server's mod when available
  • Addon system: OfflineDATSave, Fullscreen, Demo, QuitGame, and more
  • Discord RPC, console output, and BetaEvolutions support
  • Configurable JVM arguments, Java path, instance directory and icon, and starting resolution
  • Multi-language support

Target Audience

  • Nostalgic players revisiting classic and legacy Minecraft versions
  • Enthusiasts studying early Minecraft versions
  • Players who want mods or multiplayer on old versions

Quick Start

  1. Download the launcher for your platform from Releases
  2. Sign in with a Microsoft account on launch
  3. Pick the legacy version you want to play from the version list
  4. Adjust Java path, memory, and resolution in settings as needed
  5. You can also join servers from the server list, with mods downloaded automatically when required

Core Advantages

  • Focused on legacy compatibility with many historical issues fixed
  • Built-in mod repository and server list for mods and multiplayer in one place
  • Available on Windows, Linux, and macOS

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 7+ (32/64-bit), modern 64-bit Linux distributions, macOS 10.8+
  • Additional dependencies: Java 7+; official Microsoft and Mojang links require TLSv1.2, so Java 8u181 or 7u191 and above is recommended

Notes

  • On Apple Silicon Macs the v1 launcher shows inverted red/blue colors; going fullscreen is a workaround, and v2 fixes it
  • Very old Windows versions such as XP may not work if their Java lacks TLSv1.2 support
  • This is a third-party launcher and is not affiliated with Mojang
