README

Project Overview

Legado Tauri is a cross-platform desktop reading app built with Tauri v2, Vue 3, and Rust. It brings the Legado book source idea to the desktop: sources are standard JavaScript files executed in a sandbox by the built-in Boa engine, combined with bookshelf, discovery, history, and a plugin system into a freely extensible reading tool that can also be packaged for Android.

JavaScript book sources, bringing the reading experience to the desktop.

Key Features

  • Bookshelf: manage followed books in one place, search by title or author, and read chapters in an immersive reader
  • Multi-source discovery and search: browse recommendations from multiple sources and run aggregated cross-source search with capability detection
  • Book source system: JavaScript-driven with a built-in Monaco editor for live debugging and one-click installs from an online repository
  • Plugin extensions: an extension script system organized by category with a built-in sample library
  • Interface: Naive UI components with responsive layout, a collapsible sidebar, and customizable theme color
  • Performance and safety: a Rust backend for native-level speed, with Boa sandboxing scripts under multiple timeout guards

Target Audience

  • Users who want source-based reading on desktop
  • Developers writing and debugging JavaScript book sources
  • Advanced users extending reading with plugins
  • People who prefer a modern desktop UI with responsive layout

Quick Start

  1. Install Node.js 18+, pnpm 8+, and Rust stable
  2. Clone the repo and run pnpm install
  3. Run pnpm run dev:desktop to start development mode
  4. Install sources from the online repository in source management, or write and debug your own in the editor
  5. Build a release with pnpm run build:windows or pnpm run build:tauri

Core Advantages

  • Debuggable scripts: the built-in Monaco editor gives completions and live debugging for sources
  • Sandboxed execution: Boa isolates script execution with timeout protection against runaway scripts
  • Cross-platform: one codebase packages into Windows desktop and Android apps
  • Highly extensible: both sources and plugins can be written by users, so the capability ceiling is yours

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Windows, Android, and more
Node.js 18 and above
Other pnpm 8+, Rust stable, Tauri CLI v2

Notes

  • The app provides no content; import or write your own sources
  • The interface and online repository need a network connection
  • Some sources break when the target site changes
  • Building from source requires the platform's packaging toolchain
