README

Project Overview

Reader brings the well-known Android reader Legado (Yuedu 3.0) to the desktop, with builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is built with Rust, Tauri v2, and Vue 3; the UI and the local core run in one desktop process, so there is no server, database, or account to set up — your bookshelf, progress, and cache stay on your own machine.

No always-on server required; all data stays on your own device.

Key Features

  • Book source tools: import, export, add, edit, and batch-test JSON sources, with remote subscription and one-click updates
  • Rule engine: supports CSS selectors, JSONPath, XPath, regular expressions, and JavaScript rules
  • Multi-source search: searches sources in parallel, merges results by title and author, and shows the source count
  • Local reading: reads local TXT, EPUB, and PDF plus online books, with chapter caching and offline reading
  • Reading customization: day/night themes, font, size, weight, line and paragraph spacing, indent, page-turn modes, and custom backgrounds
  • Text-to-speech: system voices plus API voices compatible with OpenAI, Fish, ElevenLabs, and Azure
  • Data management: local backup and restore, WebDAV sync, and two-way progress sync with the Legado mobile app
  • RSS subscription: import feeds locally or remotely, with articles and books unified in recent reads

Target Audience

  • People who want to read ebooks on a large desktop screen
  • Users familiar with the Legado book source ecosystem
  • Those who want to read RSS feeds in one place
  • Users who prefer fully local data with no account

Quick Start

  1. Download the installer or portable package for your system from Releases
  2. After launch, import legitimate book sources, or open your own TXT, EPUB, and PDF files
  3. Search with the top search box, add results to the bookshelf, and start reading
  4. Adjust appearance, background, and closing behavior in home settings, and layout, cache, and TTS in reading settings

Core Advantages

  • Standalone by design: no server, no account, ready to use after install
  • Ecosystem interop: reads Legado sources, RSS feeds, and backups, with progress synced between phone and PC
  • Desktop ergonomics: auto-hiding toolbars, context menus, shortcut keys, and tray behavior suit desktop use
  • Deeply customizable: theme, layout, background, page turning, and TTS all adapt to your habits

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Windows, macOS, Linux
Architecture Windows x64; macOS Intel and Apple Silicon; Linux x64
Runtime Bundled in the release; nothing extra to install

Notes

  • The app ships no book sources and no book content; import legitimate sources yourself
  • macOS builds are unsigned, so you may need to allow the app in system settings on first launch
  • On some Linux desktops the AppImage may not start; try the DEB package and check the WebKitGTK runtime
  • TTS access keys are stored in local config and included in backups; never share a backup publicly
