README
Project Overview
Lumi is a local ebook reader for Android, born for reading, with a clean and elegant interface that supports EPUB, PDF, TXT, MOBI, and CBZ comics. A self-built Canvas engine delivers smooth page-turn animations, alongside TTS, highlights, reading statistics, and WebDAV sync. It is local-first and privacy-first: reading data stays on your device by default, with no third-party analytics, ads, or push SDKs.
Your reading data stays on this device, without giving up the reading experience.
Key Features
- Multi-format reading: EPUB, PDF, TXT, MOBI, and CBZ comic archives
- Dual EPUB rendering: publisher layout keeps original HTML/CSS/fonts, reader layout applies unified typesetting
- CBZ comics: reads images inside archives directly, with subfolder chapters, ComicInfo metadata, and right-to-left paging
- Four page turns: smooth slide, continuous scroll, fade, and page-curl simulation
- Typesetting controls: font size, line and letter spacing, paragraph spacing, independent margins, and first-line indent
- TTS: uses system TTS or connects to OpenAI-compatible and Xiaomi MiMo Chat TTS endpoints
- Annotations: six-color highlights, notes, bookmarks, full-text search, and annotation export
- Reading stats: daily time, weekly trend, monthly and yearly heatmaps, and reading streaks
- Cloud sync and backup: WebDAV sync plus local ZIP backup and restore
Target Audience
- Users reading EPUB, PDF, and other ebooks on a phone
- People who read CBZ comics on mobile
- Commuters who prefer listening over reading
- Privacy-conscious users who dislike tracking
Quick Start
- Download the latest APK from GitHub Releases and install it
- Import local books via the system file picker or by granting access to a library folder
- Open a book and adjust typesetting, theme, and page-turn effects on the reading screen
- For listening, open TTS and pick a system voice or configure a third-party TTS endpoint
- Highlight, take notes, and add bookmarks inside books, then export them from settings
Core Advantages
- Local-first: reading data stays on-device by default, and secrets are encrypted with the system keystore
- Zero third-party SDKs: no analytics, ads, push, or crash reporting
- Self-built rendering: the Canvas engine enables smooth page turns and precise typesetting
- Complete stats: heatmaps and streak records from daily to yearly show your consistency
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Android 8.0 or later |
| Architecture | Mainstream Android architectures |

Notes
- Local PDF parsing only extracts the text layer; scanned PDFs need cloud services such as MinerU
- WebDAV, MinerU, and third-party TTS connect to their services only when you enable them
- TTS API keys are encrypted with Android KeyStore, but keep them safe regardless
- The privacy policy and user agreement are shown on first launch; read them before use
