README

Project Overview

Cinema Vault is a local-first private media library that unifies movies, anime, comics, and novels in one app. It scans local directories automatically and scrapes metadata and posters from multiple sources, with a built-in web player, comic and novel readers, playlists, new-release monitoring, and yearly reports. The front end is plain HTML, CSS, and JS with a Node and SQLite backend, and all data stays on your machine.

Movies, anime, comics, and novels, gathered into one local vault.

Key Features

  • Movie and anime library: poster wall, detail drawer, and multi-source metadata scraping
  • Comic and novel library: a split directory tree and a horizontal chapter reader
  • Online viewing: a built-in full-site reverse proxy bringing external sites into the app
  • New-release monitoring: track performer and comic series updates with covers saved locally
  • Yearly reports: area charts, bubble charts, and ratio bars
  • Highly customizable: home and banner backgrounds, sidebar collapse, and poster ratios
  • Responsive single codebase: one codebase adapting to desktop, tablet, and phone
  • Access auth: server-side session auth guarding both pages and APIs

Target Audience

  • Users with large local media collections
  • Anime fans who also read comics and novels
  • People who want to manage local media in one place

Quick Start

  1. Download the installer or portable edition from Releases
  2. First launch builds the database automatically, no password by default
  3. Add media scan paths in settings and click scan
  4. Browse the poster wall and play once scanning finishes

Core Advantages

  • Data stays local: everything stays on your machine, uploaded nowhere
  • Ready out of the box: no Node or Docker needed, database built on first launch
  • Four libraries in one: movies, anime, comics, and novels managed together

System Requirements

Item Requirement

Portable run Node.js 18 or later
Optional dependency ffmpeg and ffprobe

Notes
