README
Project Overview
MoRealm is a modern Android ebook reader built with Jetpack Compose and Material 3, compatible with the Legado 3.x book source format. It reads EPUB, TXT, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, CBZ, and CBR, uses a self-built Canvas typesetting engine for smooth long-chapter scrolling, and offers five page-turn animations and six built-in themes. TTS, sync, and tag management are included, under a GPL-3.0 plus commercial dual license.
A reader rebuilt on a modern Android stack, while staying compatible with your existing Legado sources.
Key Features
- Multi-format support: EPUB, TXT, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, CBZ, CBR
- Self-built typesetting: a paragraph-level LazyColumn engine for smooth long chapters, pre-laid out per chapter
- Page-turn animations: slide, cover, simulation, vertical scroll, and none
- Fine typesetting: font, size, line/paragraph spacing, margins, simplified/traditional conversion, and custom CSS
- Multi-engine TTS: switch among Edge TTS, system TTS, OpenAI, and custom APIs, with MediaStyle notifications and a timer
- Sources and search: Legado-compatible with a CSS/XPath/JSONPath/Regex rule engine and one-tap CheckSource
- Sync and backup: WebDAV backup, restore, and progress sync, plus local ZIP backup and history restore
- Themes and appearance: six built-in themes, custom themes, a global background, and separate day/night backgrounds
- Multi-tag classification: a many-to-many tag system, 15 built-in genre tags, and five-layer scored auto-filing
Target Audience
- Android users reading with Legado book sources
- Readers who want a modern Compose UI and smooth typesetting
- Users who sync reading progress across devices
- Book lovers who like organizing and tagging their library
Quick Start
- Download the latest APK from Releases and install it
- Get a
.jsonbook source, then import and enable it via "Mine -> Source Management -> Import from JSON" - On the shelf, tap "+ -> Network Search" and enter a keyword to find books
- Adjust typesetting, theme, and page-turn animation on the reading screen, and open TTS to pick an engine
- Configure WebDAV in settings to enable backup and progress sync
Core Advantages
- Modern stack: Jetpack Compose, Material 3, and Hilt give a consistent, fluid UI
- Source compatibility: use Legado 3.x sources directly, and take over sources and books in one move
- Multiple TTS engines: Edge TTS plus several remote engines, controllable from the notification
- Automatic filing: the scoring waterfall and genre tags keep the library neatly organized
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Android 8.0 (API 26) or later |
| Build environment | JDK 17, Gradle 8.x (wrapper included) |
| Network | Needed for TTS, source search, and WebDAV sync |
Notes
- Dual-licensed: open-source use follows GPL-3.0, while commercial use needs a separate license
- TTS and some source parsing are still being polished, and remote engines depend on network conditions
- If a source works in Legado but not in MoRealm, open an issue with the source JSON
- The project provides no content; prepare legitimate sources yourself
