README
Project Overview
Aikanshu (book) is an open-source network-novel reader built with Flutter, focused on local book sources and a clean reading interface. It uses a three-tab home of shelf, discover, and mine, ships a source engine compatible with a subset of Legado rules, supports simulation, cover, no-animation, and vertical-scroll page turns, and offers WeChat-Reading-style paper themes. Android is the priority platform, under the Apache-2.0 license.
A lightweight, good-looking Flutter novel reader you can manage sources with yourself.
Key Features
- Three-tab home: shelf, discover, and mine clearly separated
- Local source engine: compatible with a Legado rule subset, supporting HTTP and CSS/JSON/JS rules
- Reader: simulation, cover, no-animation, and vertical-scroll page-turn modes
- Paper themes: WeChat-Reading-style white, beige, green, and night themes
- Custom fonts: import your own fonts
- Caching: chapter and paging cache (
reader.db) for smoother reading - Progress saving: automatic progress saving, plus source switching and TOC sync
- Optional stats: optional Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics with your own config
Target Audience
- Android users reading novels with custom sources
- Readers who prefer a clean UI and paper-like feel
- Developers wanting to learn reader implementation with Flutter
- Book lovers who need solid chapter caching and source switching
Quick Start
- Install Flutter 3.44 stable (Dart 3.12) and the Android SDK
- Run
flutter pub getto fetch dependencies - With a device connected, run
flutter run, or build withflutter build apk - Import local book sources in the app, then find books on the shelf or discover page
- For a signed release, follow the build scripts and signing secrets setup
Core Advantages
- Self-managed sources: the local source engine keeps content sourcing in your hands
- Clean interface: paper themes and a three-tab layout make reading and finding easy
- Solid performance: chapter and paging caches cut repeated parsing for smoother page turns
- Open and learnable: a complete Flutter implementation, useful as a reader-project reference
System Requirements
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OS | Android (priority); the iOS project tree is unmaintained |
| Toolchain | Flutter 3.44, Dart 3.12, Android SDK |
| Optional | Rust book_pager native pager, Firebase config |
Notes
- Android is the priority; the iOS project is unmaintained
- Firebase analytics and crash reporting are optional and need your own
google-services.json - If the native pager lacks the matching ABI, it falls back to Dart paging automatically
- The app provides no novel content; prepare legitimate sources yourself
