README

Project Overview

SMB Link is an Android LAN 4K media player that connects a phone straight to Windows or NAS SMB and WebDAV shares to play locally downloaded anime and movies without loss. It uses libmpv as its playback core, automatically groups episodes by folder into a poster-wall library, and scrapes posters, Chinese titles, and ratings from Bangumi. The interface offers Simplified Chinese and English, and it is built with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

No need to copy your library to the phone; a shared NAS is enough for a poster wall.

Key Features

  • SMB2/3 direct connection: negotiates the maximum read block via smbj and can saturate gigabit LAN
  • WebDAV support: the same library, resume, and scraping features work with Alist, Synology, and QNAP entries
  • libmpv playback core: 4K HEVC hardware decoding, automatic multithreaded software fallback for 10-bit, and a full libass subtitle stack
  • Poster-wall library: groups series by folder and scrapes posters, Chinese titles, ratings, and resume badges from Bangumi
  • Playback experience: immersive landscape, swipe gestures, double-tap seek, long-press 2x, audio/subtitle/speed switching, and resume
  • Intro skip: a one-tap +90s jump to skip intros
  • Credential security: passwords are encrypted at rest with Android Keystore AES-GCM
  • LAN discovery: scans the subnet's port 445 to find shared hosts
  • Diagnostics report: the player page shows realtime bitrate, hardware-decoding status, and mpv logs with one-tap copy
  • Bilingual UI: follows the system language, while diagnostic logs stay single-language for troubleshooting

Target Audience

  • Users who keep a library on a NAS or Windows machine
  • Anime and movie fans who watch on a phone
  • Users who care about playback performance and quality
  • Users who need Chinese and English

Quick Start

  1. Download and install the latest APK (arm64) from Releases
  2. Open the app and use LAN discovery or enter the shared host address and share name manually
  3. Enter the SMB or WebDAV account and password, then scan the media library
  4. Wait for scraping to finish and browse the poster wall on the home page
  5. Tap a title to play, use swipe gestures for volume, brightness, and progress, and +90s to skip the intro
  6. When playback misbehaves, turn on the "Diagnostics" switch on the player page and copy the report

Core Advantages

  • Lossless playback: the libmpv core handles 4K and 10-bit content well without transcoding
  • Poster-wall experience: series are grouped and scraped automatically for intuitive browsing
  • Credential security: passwords are encrypted with the system Keystore instead of stored in plaintext
  • Efficient networking: the negotiated maximum read block can saturate a gigabit LAN

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS Android
Architecture arm64-v8a
Dependencies Same LAN as the shared host; storage permission for caching

Notes

  • Some HiSilicon devices fall back to software decoding due to driver compatibility, and higher power use is expected
  • Bangumi matching takes the first search result, so same-name seasons may get the wrong poster and need manual correction
  • smbj has no share-enumeration capability, so share names must be entered manually
  • Under the HarmonyOS NEXT compatibility layer a "smooth mode" is enabled automatically and can be switched under "Settings > Interface"
