Project Overview
LX Music Enhanced Desktop, maintained by shellsec, is a rework of lyswhut/lx-music-desktop keeping the Apache-2.0 license and original copyright, with changes documented in NOTICE. On top of the original it adds three things: custom source management, automatic source-switching retries in user-defined order after playback failures, and HTTPS subscription manifest updates. The app ships no audio sources at all, the custom source list starts empty, and every parsing script is imported by the user.
Everything LX desktop users had, plus automatic source switching and subscriptions.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Base | lyswhut/lx-music-desktop v2.12.6 |
| Platform | Windows x64 (installer/7z/single-file), macOS Apple Silicon, Linux x64 AppImage/DEB |
| License | Apache-2.0 (changes in NOTICE) |
| Sources | None bundled, user-imported |
Key Features
- Custom source management: open the Custom Sources window in settings, import local scripts or paste online script URLs, reorder retries with move up/down
- Multi-source auto switching: off by default, once enabled playback failures retry only through your list in order, each source once per round
- Subscription updates: save an HTTPS manifest URL that persists, accepting JSON arrays or sources objects, with HTTPS-only script URLs
- Subscription cooldown: one automatic check per song per address, at least 60 seconds between consecutive tracks, manual updates exempt
- Incremental merging: updates keep locally imported sources and order, drop removed entries, append new ones, and preserve the old list when downloads or validation fail
- Original capabilities: desktop lyrics, quality selection, playlists, themes, and the rest of LX desktop carry over
Install
- Download per platform from the release page: Windows offers x64 installer, 7z portable, and single-file portable
- macOS ships an Apple Silicon ARM64 DMG without Developer ID signing, approve manually on first open
- Linux provides x64 AppImage and DEB, not yet verified on real Linux machines
- SHA256SUMS.txt on the release page covers per-package verification
Usage Flow
- Open the Custom Sources management window in settings
- Click Local import for your own scripts, or Online import to paste script URLs
- With several sources imported, tick Multi-source auto switching and order them with move up/down
- For subscriptions, fill in your manifest address and click Save subscription URL
Development & Verification
- Build: Node.js 22+ with npm ci, npm run lint, npm run build
- Tests: npm run test:sources covers empty lists, imports, ordered retries, and subscription parsing
- Packaging checks: release builds verify that distributed files contain no source-script assets
Notes
- Disclaimer: the app provides no audio sources, imported content is the user's responsibility under local law and copyright
- Platform caveats: the macOS DMG is unsigned, Linux packages unverified on real machines
- Subscription boundaries: an empty address means no remote requests, and unchanged manifests and scripts trigger no reload or retry
