README

Project Overview

UnBox is a cross-platform desktop player for TV box and IPTV users, bringing live TV and video-on-demand into one interface. It supports TVBox single-line sources, FongMi multi-line sources and M3U / TXT live sources, and also offers a local media library with resume playback. Just download the package for your platform — no server deployment or Go / Node setup required.

Install and watch, with live TV and on-demand in a single package.

Key Features

  • Live TV plus on-demand: one interface for IPTV live TV and video-on-demand, with categories, groups and search
  • Multi-source import: supports TVBox single-line sources, FongMi multi-line sources and M3U / TXT live sources
  • Local media library: add local folders to scan videos recursively, with posters and resume playback
  • Smart playback routing: H.264 plays in the built-in web player, while HEVC / RTMP / MKV switch to external mpv
  • Playback settings: enable auto next-episode, auto source switching and next-episode preloading
  • Site-wide search: searches all imported sites concurrently, refreshing results live and interruptible at any time
  • Source management: import on-demand and live sources separately, keeping history for one-click switching
  • Logs and updates: a built-in log window and a one-click update check in settings

Target Audience

  • Users who watch TV box or IPTV content on a computer
  • Users who want a local media library with resume playback
  • Users who want to manage multiple on-demand sources in one place

Quick Start

  1. Download the package for your platform from Releases and install it
  2. Open "Settings" and paste an on-demand source (TVBox single-line / FongMi multi-line JSON URL) or a live source (M3U / TXT)
  3. On the "On-demand" page, pick a line and site, browse categories or use site-wide search, then open details and play an episode
  4. On the "Live" page, choose a group and channel and click to play
  5. On the "Media library" page, add a local folder and click "Rescan" to browse and play local videos

Core Advantages

  • No runtime setup: no Go / Node needed at runtime, as front-end assets are compiled into the binary
  • Flexible playback: routes intelligently between the built-in web player and mpv by format
  • Cross-platform: packages for Windows, macOS and Linux
  • Broad source support: single-line, multi-line and live sources all import

System Requirements

Platform Architecture Minimum Version
Windows amd64 / arm64 Windows 10 1809 or later
macOS amd64 + arm64 macOS 12 Monterey or later
Linux amd64 Ubuntu 24.04+ / Debian 13+

Notes

  • HEVC / RTMP and local containers such as MKV and AVI need mpv; install it yourself on macOS and Linux AppImage
  • Linux AppImage does not install system dependencies automatically, so install missing GStreamer components manually
  • Sites based on csp_ JAR and xpath (type=0) are not yet supported
