README

Project Overview

Legado Source Generator is a browser extension that generates Legado book source rules by visually picking page elements, so you do not have to hand-write selectors. It breaks a source into five rule types — discover, search, detail, chapter list, and content — guiding you through picking elements, generating stable CSS selectors automatically, and exporting a source JSON file ready to import into the reading app.

Pick a few page elements and assemble a working book source.

Key Features

  • Visual selection: click any element on the page to select it, no hand-written selectors
  • Smart selectors: generates stable CSS selectors and, for lists, takes the intersection of two items to build reusable rules
  • Step-by-step workflow: covers discover, search, detail, chapter list, and content rule types
  • Keyboard navigation: move precisely through the DOM tree with arrow keys, confirm with Enter, cancel with Esc
  • Search URL capture: captures search requests automatically, detecting GET/POST, charset, and generating placeholders
  • Discover editing: visual card editing, page collection, batch URL changes, and style template management
  • Error detection: flags potential issues such as Shadow DOM, iframes, and dynamic classes
  • Update check: compares against the latest GitHub version automatically
  • Persistent state: entered content is saved and survives closing the browser

Target Audience

  • Reading users who want to build their own sources
  • Advanced users who debug and maintain sources
  • People who need to organize discover categories in bulk

Quick Start

  1. Open the extensions page, enable Developer mode, load an unpacked extension, and pick the src directory
  2. Open the target website and click the extension icon to open the sidebar
  3. Fill in the source name and base URL, then choose a rule type
  4. Click Pick Element to start selecting; list fields need two items from the same list
  5. Click Export JSON when done and import it into the reading app

Core Advantages

  • No hand-writing: visual picking replaces hand-written rules, lowering the entry barrier
  • Stable rules: intersection-based reusable selectors are more stable
  • Complete coverage: all five rule types from discover to content are supported
  • Visible problems: potential selector risks are flagged right away for early avoidance

System Requirements

Item Requirement
Browser Chrome / Edge (MV3), plus a Firefox port
Installation Load an unpacked extension in Developer mode or install from a store
Debugging The reading app must have its web service enabled

Notes

  • The Chrome version targets MV3, while the Firefox version is a port that may have issues; prefer Chrome/Edge
  • After exporting sources, follow the target site's rules and local law
  • Do not publicly share logs containing personal information when debugging requests
