README
Project Overview
auto-translate is a Chrome/Edge extension (Manifest V3) modeled after Immersive Translate, doing bilingual web translation through your own AI APIs. It supports OpenAI-compatible, Claude, Gemini and Ollama formats, and ships built-in Google/Microsoft free channels — usable out of the box without any key.
Immersive-translate style with your own AI, or with free channels and zero keys.
Key Features
- Full-page bilingual translation: dual/translated/original modes, cycle with
Alt+M - Viewport lazy translation: only translates what you see, saving API quota
- Selection translation: bubble with streaming output and Edge TTS read-aloud
- Input-box translation: one click to translate what you typed, filled back in
- Hover translation: a badge on block elements for on-demand paragraph translation
- Multi-format AI APIs: OpenAI-compatible/Claude/Gemini/Ollama with custom BaseURL, key and model
- Free channels and fallback: keyless Google/Microsoft channels; automatic switch to a backup API on failure
- Smart rendering: truncated-box escape, flex/grid adaptation, self-rendering element protection, SPA re-translation
- Site rules: built-in exclusions plus allow/block lists with Chinese IDN domains
- Translation cache: cross-session reuse with rate limiting, retry and dedup
