Project Overview

When you want Hongguo short dramas on the TV but the phone experience falls short, hongguoTV offers a native TV client redesigned around the remote. Built with Kotlin, native Android views, and Media3, it requires only Android 7.0, runs from a single APK with no server deployment, and keeps favorites and watch progress on the TV itself.

One APK that works over the network, with favorites and progress stored only on the TV.

Key Features

• Home recommendations: browse trending dramas, with hide and watch-later options
• Four rankings: overall hits, live-action, animated, and AI drama charts
• Global search: TV letter keyboard plus system IME input, pinyin-initial suggestions (typing BFLC works), merging name matches with web results
• Playback controls: 480P / 720P / 1080P quality, speed control, resume playback, auto-continue, episode panel, and picture modes
• Local records: favorites, watch progress, and search history all stored locally
• Phone assist: scan a QR code and send drama names from a phone browser to the TV input box
• Backup and restore: QR-based LAN backup and restore of favorites and progress
• In-app updates: checks for new versions in the foreground, verifies signatures, and installs via system confirmation

Usage and Remote

• Focus, arrow keys, OK, and Back keys are fully adapted for remote operation
• Search history flows inline, with pinyin-initial suggestions while typing
• The player supports pause, seeking, and the episode panel, resuming from the last position automatically

Data and Backup

• Favorites, progress, and search history stay on the device; no account data is uploaded
• The APK listens on the LAN over HTTP only while the phone backup or phone input window is open, at most 5 minutes, stopping when the window closes
• Media is processed in memory only; whole series are never downloaded to storage

Notes

• Unofficial client: content comes from third-party APIs, and APK updates may be needed when interfaces or signing protocols change; no VIP unlocking or paid bypass is included
• Updater glitch: if checking for updates reports an invalid update format, manually download the APK from Releases and overwrite-install; the same-signature upgrade keeps favorites and history
• Real-device verification: JVM unit tests and emulator remote checks pass, but real TV decoding and long-run stability deserve on-device confirmation
• Building: self-compilation needs JDK 17 and Android SDK Platform 35; run ./gradlew.bat assembleDebug
