Project Overview

hongguoTV is an unofficial Hongguo short-drama client that lives on your TV, filling the gap of a missing official TV app for remote-control viewers. The mainline is now a standalone Kotlin native build (package com.hongguotv.nativeapp) that works online out of the box, with no Node or Docker required, and can coexist with older versions. Playback has been adapted to the server's current API for full 1080p HEVC episodes, and signing requests generate a fresh random device identity each time.

One Android TV box plus one APK puts short dramas in the living room.

Key Features

• Full remote control: focus scrolling on D-pad, OK, and Back, with selection landing computed by position instead of jumping around
• Danmaku: follows playback with adjustable size and row count, pauses with the video and ignores speed changes
• Dual search paths: keyword and by-title search, half-typed names of new shows still match, local index rebuilt once a day
• Rankings: Hongguo hot rankings, 36 titles per page with continuous paging
• Binge and preload: auto next episode with address and first bytes preloaded, cold start around 1.6 seconds
• Favorites and resume: local favorites, watch history, and resume from where you left off

Usage Flow

1. Download the latest kotlin-vX.Y.Z APK from Releases and install it on the TV via USB drive or adb install -r
2. Open and use it right away, browsing recommendations, rankings, and search with no server address to configure
3. Pick episodes from the detail page, progress is saved automatically so you resume next time

Installation & Permissions

• Certificate note: all builds from this repo share one self-signed certificate (SHA-256 4f4cf502…), so upgrades keep favorites and history, but it differs from the official app and other forks, uninstall any other signed version first
• Standalone runtime: the native build works online with no Node server or Docker
• Update channel: the in-app update check pulls metadata from GitHub Releases, so the TV needs access to GitHub

Notes

• Unofficial API: not affiliated with Hongguo officially, content APIs are reverse-engineered and may break when the platform changes
• Same-series detection: series are matched by stripping season numbers from titles, fuzzy matching is deliberately avoided to keep different shows apart
• Licensing: project code is GPL-3.0, with the older React Native app and Node content service still kept in the repo
