Project Overview
Chasing DramaBox shorts on a big desktop screen with your phone's progress intact has no official answer. DramaBox Desktop turns it into a Tauri app: a stable Windows 10/11 x64 build 0.16.1 plus an Apple M-chip-only macOS preview. It delivers a theater home, immersive playback, AI subtitles translating Chinese/English/Japanese/Korean, adaptive wide mode, watchlists with resume, viewing notes, and project data review, with the installer at about 23.7 MB and AI components downloading about 3.16 GB on first run.
Short dramas on the desktop, with subtitle translation and progress management thought through.

Key Features
- AI subtitle translation: reads available subtitle files first, recognizes audio when none exist, translates zh/en/ja/ko with original, translated, or bilingual display, whole-episode processing, next-episode preloading, local cache and export
- Theater and immersive playback: browse recommendation sections, enter immersive mode and return anytime, with auto next, speed, fullscreen, and saved progress
- Search and filters: suggestions, paging, recent searches, official category and genre tags, plus official recommendation metrics rankings
- Wide mode: one click hides the episode panel to fill the player's width, panel and player aligned vertically
- Desktop viewing: portrait mini window, always-on-top, hover-hide, light/dark themes, closing the main window parks it in the tray
- Watchlist and history: saved locally per account with legacy import, export, and migration, no phone sync
- Viewing notes: whole-series or per-episode notes and episode lists for review (not offline downloads)
- Delisting markers: 45° badges and grayscale covers for delisted shows, with detection and restoration history
- Project data: My projects and creator projects managed separately, syncing public view/follow metrics and trends
Install
- On Windows download DramaBox_0.16.1_x64-setup.exe and follow the wizard, in-app update checks since 0.9.0
- On macOS confirm an Apple M chip in About This Mac, then drag the aarch64 DMG into Applications, Mac updates are manual
- When the Mac warns it cannot verify the app, use Open Anyway under Privacy & Security
- After launch, follow the first-run network guide to check library and cover connectivity
Usage
- Paid chapters: signing in does not unlock everything, account-required chapters stay under per-episode authorization, no VIP bypass provided
- Google sign-in: needs Chrome or Edge installed, Windows' App Wi-Fi channel routes separately from the system proxy
- Notifications: reserve shows or episodes, checked while the app runs online, results land in the local notification center
- Data caveats: project records come from public site fields, not precise playback or revenue reports
Notes
- Unofficial client: unaffiliated with DramaBox, content rights stay with their owners, access follows official authorization
- Repo nature: 仓库仅提供安装包与升级信息,不包含应用源码, and GitHub's auto-generated Source code archives are not the app project
- Mac preview: ad-hoc signed and un-notarized, playback integration and long-episode speeds pending real-device review, with Metal confirming 35/35 model layers on GPU
- Mihomo component: the network component inside the Windows installer ships its license and source archive, absent from the Mac build
