Project Overview
TVBox's spider ecosystem has long been tied to TV boxes and Android emulators, leaving phones and desktop browsers with no easy entry. TVBox Web solves this with a dual-engine architecture: on Windows, Node.js runs js-engine spiders directly and serves Fastify, while on Android one APK bundles NanoHTTPD and a Dalvik spider engine as a resident service, letting every phone, tablet, PC, and car browser in the house watch over LAN. The gateway strips CORS and hotlink protection automatically, with streaming M3U8 rewriting for seekable playback.
One server turns every family browser into a TVBox.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Form | Self-hosted aggregation service (Windows / Android dual form) |
| Stack | Node.js Fastify gateway + Android NanoHTTPD/Dalvik + web frontend |
| Port | 8999 by default |
| Frontend deps | Tailwind and HLS.js fully local, zero CDN |
| License | Unspecified |
Dual-Engine Architecture
- Node engine: parses js-class cross-platform spiders, starting Fastify in a local process without Android VM overhead
- Android Dex engine: parses csp-class Dalvik bytecode spiders and encrypted containers via a foreground service or WSA container host running DexClassLoader
- Zero-dependency gateway: injects CORS headers for spider requests, adds Referer and User-Agent to m3u8/mp4 streams against hotlink protection, and proxies M3U8 segments with Range resume support
Playback Capabilities
- Audio track switching: dynamic binary rewriting of MP4 moov/trak/tkhd and MKV EBML Tracks/TrackEntry evens out Chromium and Gecko defaults, letting Cantonese/Mandarin tracks switch freely
- Subtitle engine: sniffs and relays HLS EXT-X-MEDIA and network subtitle tracks; local srt/vtt/ass/ssa dragged into the player convert to WebVTT instantly; Blu-ray PGS bitmap streams are flagged with guidance
- Pro shortcuts: F/D frame step, X/C/Z speed with memory, P picture-in-picture, R rotate, S screenshot, W webpage fullscreen, ? help panel
- Netdisk and resume: built-in QR config for Quark, Aliyun Drive, Baidu Netdisk, and 115; local history records per-episode breakpoints with one-click resume
Deployment & Startup
- Double-click start.bat on Windows, answering Y to auto-install Node.js when missing; start_silent.bat runs hidden, stop.bat shuts down cleanly
- When WinNAT/Hyper-V squats the port, run the port-repair batch to fix it automatically
- CLI route: cd TVBox_Web then run node gateway.js
- Open 127.0.0.1:8999 to watch, /website for the netdisk QR config, LAN devices use localIP:8999
- On Android, install the APK for auto-start residency, then other devices scan and watch
Target Audience
- Families sharing one media entry across many devices
- Windows users avoiding emulator hassle
- Browser power users wanting PWA installs and immersive windows
Notes
- Sources and compliance: playback comes from user-configured TVBox sources, availability and legality rest with the sources, use licensed content
- Environment: the Windows server needs Node.js v18+ LTS, portable users can drop node.exe into bin to take priority
- Android prerequisites: head units and boxes must allow APK installs and auto-start permissions
