README

Project Overview

Bulletin is a desktop danmaku news tool that sends real-time flashes from sources such as Cailian Press, Wallstreetcn, Weibo and Zhihu flying across your desktop as bullet comments. Its window is fully transparent, always on top and click-through, so it never blocks other applications; a comment only pauses when the pointer rests on it, and you can click to open the original article. It is built with Python and Qt and runs on macOS, Windows and Linux.

Let news drift across your desktop like danmaku, keeping you informed without interrupting your work.

Key Features

  • Desktop danmaku: A single full-screen transparent canvas draws each frame, while lane and queue algorithms keep comments from overlapping
  • Click-through: On macOS it uses native mouse-event ignoring, taking over only when the pointer presses a comment and restoring immediately after
  • Real-time news flow: Connects to RSS / RSSHub second-level sources with persistent deduplication, seeding only the latest few comments at startup
  • Self-hosted relay: Fill in your own RSSHub base URL to reach sources like Cailian Press, Wallstreetcn, Weibo and Zhihu
  • Visual settings panel: Sectioned cards and toggle switches, with an on-screen guide for the danmaku area and several classic themes
  • Fine filtering: Per-source toggles, keyword allow and block lists, colored comments and adaptive speed for long comments
  • Multi-monitor friendly: Restrict comments to the primary screen, a chosen screen or span every display
  • Interaction: Left click opens the original article, middle click copies the title, right click opens a menu, hover pauses, and the system tray controls the app

Target Audience

  • Investors and professionals who track markets and real-time flashes
  • People who want to catch trending news without interrupting their work
  • Users who want news to act as an ambient desktop backdrop

Quick Start

Download a ready build

  1. Go to Releases and download the archive for your platform
  2. On macOS, extract Bulletin.app and drag it to Applications; if blocked on first launch, right click and choose Open
  3. On Windows, extract and run Bulletin.exe
  4. On Linux, extract and run Bulletin/Bulletin

Run from source

  1. Clone this repository
  2. Install dependencies: pip install -r requirements.txt
  3. Run python main.py

Core Advantages

  • Stable rendering: Per-frame drawing on a single canvas keeps scrolling smooth and easy on the eyes over long sessions
  • No interference: Click-through makes danmaku a pure visual layer, so clicks on other apps are unaffected
  • Paced appearance: Comment rhythm spreads across the queue, so new flashes arrive continuously rather than in a burst
  • Switchable look: Several built-in classic palettes let the app match your desktop style
  • Controllable setup: Sources, keywords, display area and target screens are all configurable

System Requirements

Item Requirement
OS macOS / Windows / Linux
Runtime Python 3.10 or later (PySide6)

Notes

  • Self-hosted instance: Public RSSHub instances are often unavailable, so use your own base URL for domestic sources
  • First macOS launch: If the app is blocked by security checks, right click and choose Open
  • Sensitive config: The config file may hold private relay addresses or credentials, so avoid sharing it
  • Self-signed certs: Self-hosted RSSHub works with self-signed certificates and basic-auth
